You can screw or glue the key rack to a surface, with or without the backing plate. If you want to screw the key rack on, you'll need to cut out the holes. If you glue the key rack on, you don't need to cut any holes. Therefore, the holes are marked in a different color in the file so you can deactivate them.

I recommend buying simple, dark anodized metal rings/carabiners.
